Postcards Project

This exhibition celebrates the connections and experiences shared when four primary schools  worked with artist Julie Merriman to explore their sense of the South Dublin County. Creating a series of hand printed postcards, a visual and written dialogue about place was started amongst children in the County. Each class and teacher shared their artwork and writings with children in another school. Initially children explored places close to their school, relying on different senses to experience place. They made drawings on acetate and on paper. Back in the classroom, they were introduced to dry point printing, creating their own hand printed postcards. The children also explored place through writing. Each child wrote their postcard to a child in another school and the classes also corresponded with the Mayor. Postcards were sent between schools, crisscrossing the county as the children and teachers exchanged their artworks and their experiences of living here. This exhibition brings together postcards and the participants in a celebration of sharing and exchange, the experience of place.
